Non-NHS Services
The NHS provides free healthcare for most people. However, some services provided by GP surgeries are not part of their NHS work. This means that the fee for this work is not paid by the NHS, and therefore additional charges apply.
Please note that non-NHS paperwork is secondary to the work the GP has to do on a daily basis and may be delayed due to GP workload.
The British Medical Association has a guide about GP fees.
Patient Letters
Please be aware if you need a GP to do a non-NHS letter or form for you and there is a charge, you must pay for the letter before the GP will prepare it.
Likewise, if you request a copy of any information and there is a charge, you must pay before we will photocopy or print the information off for you.
If there is not a set charge for your specific letter or form, the receptionist will ask the GP for you. We will let you know the GP's decision on the cost of the letter or form.
Please note that non-NHS paperwork is secondary to the work the GP has to do on a daily basis and may be delayed due to GP workload.
Other non-NHS services
There are some other services provided at the practice which are not covered by the NHS. These include some travel vaccinations and medical examinations for reasons other than providing healthcare, such as:
- medical examinations for taxi or HGV drivers
- adoption or fostering medicals
The practice will also charge for the completion of forms such as:
- insurance reports
- travel cancellation reports
- Ofsted reports
Please contact reception with your specific form to find out the charge. If there is not a set charge for your specific form, the receptionist will ask the GP for you. We will let you know the GP's decision on the cost of the form.
You must contact reception before booking any appointments for non-NHS examinations, as payment must be taken before your appointment.
